THE GROWING PEACE PROJECT is designed for Primary Schools in Herefordshire offering a six session course over several weeks. In 2025 the programme reached over 200 pupils in rural and urban schools.

‘If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone will benefit from our peace.’

What is Growing Peace:
Growing Peace is a programme for primary age children and is usually delivered in one hour sessions over six weeks. The outcome is for young people to learn peaceful actions, behaviour, language and techniques which can become the norm. This leads them into becoming more confident, kinder thoughtful and more aware youngsters.
Method:
The key tool is working within a circle where ideas and opinions can be shared. Listening and speaking to each other have important roles in developing empathy, and emotional literacy. Games and activities all have purpose and are fun strategies for learning and understanding.
Conflict Resolution:
Through role play and discussion we enable the children to understand the source of anger, worries and concerns and offer them positive and safe techniques for dealing with those emotions.
Growing Peace and the Curriculum:
The programme covers many aspects of PSHE and SMSC and endeavours to adapt to school term themes. Although it is managed by Quakers it is non-religious but rather promotes universal values. Interested in learning more? There is an informative video made by Peace Makers and Quakers in Britain and although is not a Growing Peace school it shows how Circle Time is used in peace education. Volunteers:
We are looking for new volunteers to help deliver the Project. Volunteers are offered training and often have the opportunity to observe in schools. All volunteers require an enhanced DBS which can be arranged through the programme. You don’t need to be teacher to volunteer - just an interest in supporting peace education.
